lol, you know, it's funny, I thought precisely the same thing :)

Maybe we should invite Amanda to NZ so she can be Helen's successor ...

BTW, Sarah, saw an early copy of a book called "New Zealand 101 Special Places". Pretty cheap RRP, spectacular landscape photography of the home country. When it comes out in the shops, would you like me to send you a copy?

If it's not too expensive, and I can send you the money, then I'd LOVE you to grab it for me! Thanks!! *big hugs*

Course, what this means is not long after it arrives here, I'll break down in little 5-year-old tears over the open page ...

Is Helen also a raving bitch? It's a fair question.

Marcotte is so far out there that even the most liberal of the mainstream candidates couldn't stomach her.

Hmm, not seeing the resemblance.

So what's up with this "Pinnochio" jazz? Do you really think that verbally abusing your critics is a good tactic? It isn't. It reflects very badly on you.

Pinocchio had a bad habit of "reinterpreting" my words. I managed to annoy her into sticking the exchange she was complaining about verbatim at her journal; I still find it amusing the number of people unable to distinguish between what I actually said and the glosses and interpretations she and others twisted into those comments. Try reading my statements alone without reading the additional commentary and you might see my point.

Oh, and Fred, both Amanda and Helen are better men than you'll ever be, and better women than you'll ever know. Sucks to be you, friend.

Oh, I understood your point perfectly well, and so did Jesurgislac. Pretending that you've been misunderstood will not help you. The best you can hope for at this point is that your buddies will see this episode as an abberation, and will eventually let it slide.

Here's the thing: From an entirely cynical point of view, calling Jesurgislac a liar is a calculated risk worth taking. She's not a big name, or especially popular, so you can probably get away with it. Sucking up to Amanda and other big names at the same time doesn't hurt.

What you may not realize, though, is that you're on mighty thin ice here, and there's a good chance that your friends will come to think that this is not an aberrant episode. I personally don't think so... this is the real you.

Uh-huh.

I see short, brunette hair on both of them -- and that's about it.

We white people don't all look alike, you know! :)

By the way, when I see on my site meter that I've had a visitor from Wellington, New Zealand, should I assume that's you?

The way I read our host's "offending" message was that he worded things poorly, and, once that was caught, rather than saying, "Yeah, I should have expressed myself better," he attempted to dig himself out of a hole.

Didn't work.

Our host attempted to insert some nuance into the situation; it was clearly rape, as he said himself, but the situation was not the same as if the victim had simply been grabbed off the street. Apparently the male was so persuaded that his girlfriend would somehow change her mind about sodomy that the fact it was really rape just didn't occur to him; one has to wonder if some recreational pharmaceuticals assisted his perceptions. That makes it no less rape, and our host said that the boyfriend should have been prosecuted.

Our host tried to introduce some sense of nuance in a situation that should have had some explanation, but he did it so poorly that Jesurgislac and others interpretted it is excusing rape. I don't believe that was his intent in the slightest.

Heck, writing about the incident in any way that isn't a "lock him up" post invites that kind of misinterpretation!

Hey, go for it, piator. The denizens of Right Blogistan would probably welcome you as a convert, and cluck their tongues over your tale of ill-treatment at the hands of the meanie feminists. Sure, you'd have to give up your pretences of intellectual honesty, but you'd be amazed at how quickly one can get over that kind of loss.

Or, if you don't wish to go down that road, you can take the harder path of self-examination. Looking honestly at what your critics are saying, and abandoning the fiction that you've been misinterpreted, would be a good start. Not gonna hold my breath, but there it is. Your choice.

Got a cite for me crying these tales of woe, Dave?

You seem to have missed how amused I am by being nominated the Official Emmanuel Goldstein for Pinocchio's Two Minute Hate group. It's not a matter of feminists vs the Right Blogosphere; I honestly care as little for your opinions as I do for those of Dana and her crowd.

Cite?

Her crowd? Her crowd?

And after I blogrolled you, too. :(
